The worst part of being a parent (July 5)
My most objective measures I would be considered a pretty easy going, fun loving person. I have always enjoyed being around kids and because of my lame childlike humor, I’ve always gotten along well with them. But there is one thing I hate about kids. One thing I go to great length to avoid.
I’m talking about kids movies.
Even when I was a kid and in what should have been the prime years to consume as much Disney as possible, I avoided kids movies. Maybe it’s bc I had older siblings and was subjected to Bill Murray and Chevy Chase and Eddie Murphy before I could even walk or maybe it was my single mom showing us Bull Durham and Dirty Dancing before we were out of elementary school, kids movies didn’t get a lot of airtime in our house.
When Megan and I were talking about parenting when we were still dating, I suggested that if we had kids, I’d handle all future puke cleanups if she took the kids to the movies. She thought I was a chump for suggesting it, but here are almost 10 years later and it’s an agreement still in place (jokes on her. Our kids aren’t pukers).
Sadly this agreement doesn’t extend to the house. I occasionally get stuck watching some trash movie like i am right now. Whomever greenlit the Snow White movie should be banned from entertainment forever.
